When one of the residents of the apartment building steps outside, the water surfaces of the basins will start to move in an undulating motion rolling through all three of the reservoirs, making it look as if the rolling waves are handed on from one basin to the next. After a few minutes, all is quiet again in the courtyard. These ponds are conceived as ‘cut-outs’ of the former Zuiderzee, an inland sea from which this new land was claimed. The past is reflected in the temporality of the waves.
